The experience of meeting the stranger highlights how every human relationship consists of a dialectics of identity and otherness. Reducing one to the other means making the relationship among men impossible. The only viable way is a hermeneutical way different from Gadamer’s one. That way recognizes the principle of transcendence as the principle that at the same time testifies the irreducible otherness of every person and his possible communion with other persons.
