The Traitor: Gilles Deleuze and the Portrait of a “Philosophically Bearded Hegel”

The aim of this essay is to examine Deleuze’s engagement with Hegel through the lens of the figure of the ‘traitor’. More specifically, the essay seeks to show how this image plays a positive role in Deleuze’s conceptual creation. This analysis will focus on the concept of ‘dialectic’, of which Hegel is considered, in Difference and Repetition, the primary traitor. It will be shown how the confrontation with Hegel contributes to the development of a radically anti-Hegelian dialectic, one based on the relationship between problem and solution rather than on negation and contradiction.
