María de Maeztu: a Philosopher from the Madrid School
This article seeks to reclaim María de Maeztu as a pivotal figure in the history of Spanish feminism and as an integral member of the Madrid School. Adopting an almost chronological approach, we will begin by tracing her period in Madrid, allowing the events themselves to challenge and ultimately refute our initial hypothesis. We will then focus on the key phases spanning from 1912 to 1936, examining her contributions to philosophical pedagogy, her most tangible endeavor—the Residencia de Señoritas—and the intellectual concerns that shaped her thinking until the onset of exile. Our analysis will pay particular attention to three formative moments in her early career: her stay in Marburg, her involvement with the Center for Historical Studies, and the central themes of her teaching at the University. Finally, we will explore how these stages culminated in a work published during her exile in Argentina.
