Storia e dramma della filosofia. L’eterno apprendistato di Deleuze

History and Drama of Philosophy: Deleuze’s Eternal Apprenticeship

The paper aims to show the complex intertwining, in Deleuze’s career, of rereading the history of philosophy through portraits of the classics, from Hume to Bergson, and experimenting with a philosophy ‘in his own name’, which would begin with Difference and Repetition. Through a focus on univocity and the eternal return and the method of dramatisation, an attempt is first made to show how it is not possible to cleanly separate, in Deleuzian thought, the history of philosophy from its conceptual creation; then, through the idea of conceptual personae as heteronyms of philosophers, an attempt is made to show how the characters encapsulate the very relationship between history and conceptual creation, as well as between history and the counter-history of philosophy. In this sense, the entire paper is geared towards showing how Deleuze’s apprenticeship in the history of philosophy never ends because it is nourished by a counter-history that Deleuze himself continues to weave through the conceptual characters that he reconstructs from the unspoken of the philosophers he studies.
